Organizing pictures or other media files manually, in Windows Explorer, is never efficient. It will take too long and you may categorize them, using a single criteria. If you are looking for an easier way to manage your files, you can try Daminion. It places numerous filters at your disposal, as well as other features, making it possible to locate specific images, songs, videos or documents instantly.

The setup wizard will install Daminion on your computer right after you agree to the terms and conditions. The software's files will be installed on a default path and a desktop shortcut will be created automatically. Once installed, the wizard will make a few initial configurations as well, but it will not take long until you can launch the program.

Files can be organized in different catalogs, which are saved automatically, as files on your hard drive. Once you import your files, the software will catalog them immediately. A large number of filters are available in a collapsible structure, on the left side of the interface. You can use them to show files from a certain folder, of a specific format, items that were last imported or imported the current or last day and filter them by their tag information or other criteria.

Some filters can be applied right away, while others can be used after making a few settings. For example, you may assign differently colored tags to individual files, by clicking an icon, beneath their thumbnails and selecting a color from a pop-up menu. Color labels can be found in the same collapsible structure and you can use them like any other filter, by clicking their radio buttons. If you select a file, you will find some of its metadata on the right side of the window. You can add certain information, like author, events, projects or places, if you want to specify where you took your pictures. It is also possible to add keywords, in the same area and use them as tags.

Like colors, you can find your assigned keywords on the left side of the window. You can also use a search function to find your tags instantly. Daminion comes with many more features. Rating your files with stars, filtering them by their ratings or synchronizing tags with their metadata are just a few examples.
